One of my favorite films of all time (and that is an extensive list) is a film that starred Tom hanks at the beginning of his career. As a kid watching the film 'BIG' I was awestruck by the storyline and Tom Hanks portrayal of a young boy who is transformed into an adult by a carnival attraction that was some kind of fortuneteller.

Tom Hanks career is legendary and I am a major fan of many of his films. From Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, Apollo 13, the money Pit...well you get the picture as this list could go on and on. This of course doesn't mention the great executive producer roles he's had with Band of Brothers and Pacific or even his voice over work with Toy story and the polar express. Yes I am a big fan (no pun intended)

So to know that Tom Hanks is a major collector himself was a great find for me. I was unaware of Tom’s unique and fascinating collection of Typewriters. Once on Regis and Kelly show he spoke about how his collection is growing to an impressive size and has dozens of the manual machines hanging around his house.

“I have almost 200 old portable manual typewriters. Most of them are actually working and I keep them rotating,” said Tom Hanks.

According to reports he even took one of his collection with him when filming Larry Crown, it was his old manual Corona Typewriter and often shares his experiences on Twitter, not through the typewriter obviously! You can see some of his typewriter updates here

Obviously some of his collection is rarer than others and claims collecting typewriters is not as quirky as it may seem. We certainly understand Tom here, as when something strikes you that you want to collect, it rarely matters what the subject is, only the fascination you have with it as well as trying to understand as much about that topic as you can. Who knows maybe one day Tom will even grace us with his presence and upload his photos of his collection onto Sqrall.com. That would certainly make this one very happy collector!
